UVa ROTC Cadet Meets President

May 17, 2007

A ROTC cadet from UVa received a big honor Thursday after meeting President Bush during a joint commissioning ceremony.

Cadet Sean Mayhard from UVa was involved in the ceremony at the White House. It's the first time a President has played a personal role in such a ceremony.

"It's a historic event, and it's an honor to be a part of this with a number of other cadets and midshipmen around the country, representing our respective universities and states and to be able to meet the President and kind of start our journey into the armed forces," said Mayhard.

Only 53 cadets and midshipmen from across the country were selected to take part in Thursday's ceremony.
