A student from Bedford County near Lynchburg was arrested Thursday after officials from his high school found him carrying a loaded gun and knife in school.
The Bedford County Sheriff's Office has not released the name of the 18-year-old male student. They are still investigating what the student planned on doing with the weapons.
According to authorities, the school administrator confronted the student after being tipped off by another student. The suspect handed over a .45-caliber Ruger pistol, a second loaded clip and a knife with a five-inch blade.
Police locked the school down for an hour while they investigated and searched for explosives and other dangers. No one was hurt.
The suspect could face a felony charge for bringing a gun onto school property. Prosecutors said he could face more charges after his motives are determined.
