UVa Students Giving Away Furniture

May 18, 2007

UVa students will be participating in the Sofa Shuffle on Saturday, giving the community the opportunity to get some free furniture.

It's not a dance. Instead, students leaving the area can drop off their used furniture at the Management Services Corporation's Clubhouse on Madison Avenue.

The public is welcome to come by and pick up anything that they want.

"Our office of community relations has been working for several years to try and get students to do more responsible things with their furniture when they leave. So we just received a wonderful response from the community. Sofa Shuffle is just one of the ways we are encouraging responsible use," said Jim Fitzgerald of UVa Community Relations.

The Sofa Shuffle lasts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donated items left after 3 p.m. will go to the Salvation Army or will be discarded.
