Charlottesville Pools Ready

May 22, 2007

Charlottesville pools open Memorial Day weekend.

The Parks and Recreation Department began cleaning the pools three months ago, making sure the chemicals are balanced and the cracks are filled.

While the pools are safe, three of the four outdoor pools are more than 30 years old and need repairs.

"I know at our other pools, there was some situation with some leaks, but at Meade, we use putty to keep up with the cracks, and obviously, the pools are 30 or 35 years old, so we maintain them to the best of our ability," said pool manager Andrea Ross. "But [we] haven't had any large maintenance or repairs which would definitely be helpful."

Meade Park's pool is being replaced this year.

The pools are open this weekend and next and for the entire summer starting June 7th.
