Kaine's Top Adviser Retiring

May 23, 2007

A top adviser to Governor Tim Kaine announced his retirement Wednesday. William Leighty will retire after 29 years in the state government.

53-year-old Leighty planned to retire at the end of former governor Mark Warner's term but Kaine asked him to stay. He officially leaves on Friday and will be succeeded by Deputy Chief of Staff Wayne Turnage.

In a press release, Kaine saluted Leighty as a "trusted chief operating officer."
