The Jefferson Area Board of Aging held its annual senior prom on Friday.

The prom was held this afternoon at the Double Tree hotel in Albemarle County.

Senior citizens from five counties in our area gathered for an afternoon full of food, dancing and fun.

The prom was hosted and sponsored by the Nelson County Senior Center.

For many of today's prom-goers it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"Some of these folks have never had the opportunity to go to a dance or a senior prom when they were in school. So, it gives them something new therefore they can go back to their grand children and children and say 'Well I attended a prom too', and it really makes it a special event for them to talk about in later years," said Connie Brittle with the Nelson County Senior Center.

Other than enjoying the live band, the group also got the opportunity to win door prizes in a special raffle.
