Jazz lovers in our area got the chance to raise money for a good cause on Sunday.

Kenneth Coles, of Kenneth Coles Salon in Charlottesville, held his annual "Three Sets for Charities" event at Live Arts Theater.

The event featured performances by local jazz and soul artists. Donations raised money for the American Diabetes Association.

Coles says one of his diabetic clients who was injured in a car accident was the inspiration for the night's fundraiser.

"Her wrist was crushed. The wrist didn't heal and so she had to have it amputated," Coles said. "I was just saddened and heartbroken by that, so I knew from that that my next event would be for the American Diabetes Association."

"It's very important that individuals are getting in and getting screened and being aggressive about their treatment," said Dr. Wendi El' Amin of UVa Family Practice.

More than 20 million Americans are currently living with diabetes.
