Food stands are usually filled with hot dogs, pretzels, or ice cream, but Carpe Donut is not your average stand. The stand features only one type of treat, organic apple cider donuts.
"I always said if you're going to be a one-trick pony, it better be a really good trick because that's really the only donut we make," said owner Matthew Rhodie.
Rhodie and his wife own Carpe Donut and put their all into cranking out donuts for their customers and serving them up hot. Rhodie and his wife set up shop at the corner of Market Street and Second Street NE every Wednesday from 8:30am to 5:30pm.
First-time customer Arthur Schulman had just heard about Carpe Donut and could not wait to sink his teeth into the tasty pastry. How did he like them? So good, Schulman says he will probably be back for more.
Rhodie says it is not that money that is most enjoyable, it is the smiles the donuts put on the faces of his customers.
"That's the real satisfaction, when people actually tell you that they love the thing that you make or when their kids get all excited," said Rhodie.
While it's true that you can get a donut just about anywhere, Rhodie hopes you'll stop by his stand in downtown Charlottesville and taste the difference at Carpe Donut.
