Obama Speaks In Virginia

June 5, 2007

Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama spoke at Hampton University Tuesday, saying that the Bush administration has done nothing to defuse what he calls a 'quiet riot' among black people.

He said the 'quiet riot' among blacks is threatening to erupt just as the riots in Los Angeles did 15 years ago. Obama said that with black people still displaced from New Orleans and the Gulf Coast 20 months after Hurricane Katrina, resentments and frustration were building.

His speech got an ovation from the nearly 8,000 people gathered in the university's convocation center for a conference of ministers, choir directors, and organists.
