The U.S. Census Bureau opened a new office in Charlottesville that could add 1200 jobs to the area. The kickoff ceremony took place Tuesday morning at 10:00 am at the Hydraulic Road location
The 1200 job openings cover parts of central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley, however, local leaders say the census office will also provide long-term benefits to the area.
With local companies like Korean tire company Hyosung in Scottsville shutting ts doors, folks are welcoming the opportunity for job growth.
Officials say the Charlottesville division of the Census Bureau could help some unemployed people get back to work, and even help those who are already employed find a second job.
The Bureau is looking to fill mostly field positions. Much of the work is done during evenings and weekends. Positions are part-time, and the Census pays $13 an hour plus mileage reimbursement for driving.
If you're interested in testing for a job with the Census Bureau, call the Charlottesville office at 434-817-2890 or you can visit their website at 2010 Census Jobs.
