Kansas Man Facing Murder Charges In Abduction Of Teen

June 7, 2007

Police believe they have found the man who killed 18-year-old Kelsey Smith.

"Edwin R. Hall 26, of Oletha has been arrested for aggravated kidnapping and murder in the first degree" said John Douglass, Overland Park Police Chief.

Police say this video shows Hall following Kelsey out of a Target store the night she disappeared. A tip, matched him to a pick up truck also caught on tape in the store parking lot.

"This community has lost a vibrant and promising life and the family has suffered an unimaginable tragedy" said Phil Kline, Prosecutor.

Kelsey's family is grateful for all the support they received while searching for their daughter. Dozens of volunteers wallpapered neighborhoods with fliers and hundreds of tips poured into police hotlines.

"The outpouring of help and support was a testament to how deeply Kelsey was loved" said Greg Smith, Kelsey's father.

That outpouring of concern for Kelsey was also evident at a vigil held in her honor Wednesday night, after hope had turned to grief.

Police say Edwin Hall is being held on $5 million bond and even more charges could be filed.
