Virginia Tech Replacing Temporary Memorials

June 7, 2007

Virginia Tech will replace the temporary memorials on the campus lawn, left to honor the 32 victims of the April 16th tragedy, with 32 engraved stones in the same semicircle near the administration building.

Virginia Tech President Charles Steger says that the temporary memorials will be offered to the families of the victims. Steger says the new stones will be an intermediate memorial while officials look for a permanent site somewhere else on campus.

A dirt path has been worn in front of the stones where visitors have left flowers, handwritten notes and lighted candles as remembrances. The ring currently includes a 33rd stone for Cho.
