Folks who were stuck at emergency shelters finally went home this afternoon.

Some were waiting for a ride back to their cars. While others were waiting to find a way home.

Almost 100 people sought emergency shelters Saturday night. By 4:00pm, they had found a way to their destinations.

Albemarle County officials also say that they responded to almost all of the abandoned vehicles on Route 29.

The snow has stopped falling, but road conditions remain treacherous Sunday. Drivers remain in their cars or need emergency housing.

Albemarle County officials are issuing another plea for folks in the Charlottesville-area with 4-wheel drive to help recover stranded motorists and assist emergency and healthcare workers.

County officials are continuing to work on Route 29 South, but cars are still getting stuck with people needing to be removed from their vehicles.

The primary roads in Albemarle county are snowpacked but passable. Secondary roads remain impassable and treacherous in most cases, officials say.

Emergency service workers, including the National Guard, report a number of situations involving people with medical emergencies who have been unable to leave their homes.

Almost 100 people still haven't been able to make it home. Approximately 45 people remain at the UVA Aquatica and Fitness Center on grounds, which has emergency housing. Another 50 are at the North Garden Fire Department, who has also provided emergency housing.

One look at 511 VA website road conditions map and you will wonder why Charlottesville is so much more inept at clearing the roadways than all of the surrounding areas? And before blasting me for criticizing, please check out the link http://www.511va.org/Conditions.aspx?r=3 The map speaks for itself. Having driven back from D.C. this afternoon, I could not believe the conditions of the roads in my hometown of Cville and really wondered why I wasn't seeing more trucks plowing?

There ARE kind and generous people out there during such extreme times - while trying to get up Rt. 53 towards Lake Monticello Friday evening, I was stuck on a sharp incline, slipped backwards into a guardrail and couldn't move forward. After some time of waiting, a god-sent family with [great tires] and patience (Jeff, Lori & Brian) stopped to help. After almost 2 hours and several more steep inclines, Jeff drove my car while I rode with Lori & Brian, and they got me home safely. This is what Christmas and the world in general should be all about! A thank you is not nearly enough. My heart goes out to those stranded, hurt or worried about loved ones. My faith in people has been restored because of those the angels sent. A safe & Happy Holiday Season to all!!

A special thanks to those at UVA and Martha Jefferson for keeping the hospitals open as well.
