Child Tied Up And Left In Car In Georgia

June 13, 2007

Police found a crying 6-year-old boy tied up and left in a car in the parking lot of a restaurant last week, after employees reported seeing a man take the child outside and returning without him.

Authorities believe the boy was tied up and left in the car for a half hour with outside temperatures reaching the 80s. The boy's mother Rachel Gilchrist, 35, and her friend, Raymond Minchew, 61, were arrested Saturday.

They were charged with cruelty to children and concealing a weapon. Police found a handgun in the car. Gilchrist remains in jail. Minchew was released on a $5,000 bail.

Officials say the boy has been put in state protective custody.
