The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors met this evening to discuss the issue of affordable housing.
In a joint meeting with the planning commission, the supervisors had a work session to discuss several recommendations presented to them by the housing committee. These recommendations include cash, equivalent proffers and promoting initial and long-term affordability, among others.
Dennis Rooker, a member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, says, "I think it's possible that we will make decisions on some of those recommendations. One of them is, for example, that we try to get 15 percent affordable housing in all projects that are a result of rezoning."
They hope that this meeting will be a step in the right direction toward the county's affordable housing goals.
