More than 200 hundred people learned a little bit about how to dig into their roots on a perfect spring day on Saturday.

The seventh-annual Family History Conference took place in Albemarle County and had nearly 20 different workshop sessions set up for the whole day.

Genealogy experts gave people tips on how to research their own family history.

People came from all over Virginia, even the country to learn more about who they are and where they came from.

"When you realize you're related to somebody, I don't know, famous or somebody notable to a community, it gives you a sense of importance or of self-worth," said Tory Johnson, the director of the conference. "You kind of understand or appreciate who you are, by knowing where you came from."

Workshops covered everything from using newspapers, DNA and even social media to search for family members.

The Family History Center off of Airport Road is open to the public Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
