On Christmas, it's almost guaranteed that you can find the emergency service folks working. And most of the open restaurants in the Charlottesville-area are those that serve Chinese cuisine.
At the Peking Restaurant in Downtown Charlottesville, the rain kept many customers away on Christmas. But the restaurant stayed open in case someone needed a place to eat.
Lisa Zhang's parents own Peking Restaurant. She says that she's been working Christmas since they opened the restaurant. It isn't terrible, she says, because it's her family's Christmas tradition.
That's because some would say the staples of Christmas day are presents, food and family. Even if it's not your own, immediate family.
Over at the Charlottesville Fire Department, many fire fighters say that this Christmas is much like the last. Most of the crew has worked the last several Christmas' since the holiday shifts are given to the newest hires. But they don't seem to mind.
"Everybody is at home, having some opportunity to spend some time with their family," says Firefighter Craig Williamson. "We're having an opportunity to spend some time with our second family here."
The Fire Department says that Christmas this year has been quiet. They've been able to cook and relax.
But no matter what, they say they're ready to fight any fire...or any Grinch.
