Hundreds of women participating in a four-mile run for breast cancer met for their first training run Saturday morning.

They will train for 12 weeks with the help of "pink lady coaches." The event started 14 years ago with only about 100 women, but this year they are expecting more than 1,000 to run.

One director says that it's a fun way to raise money for a serious cause.

"Horrific disease, first of all. One in seven women now that are afflicted and 200,000 women every year die from breast cancer," said the director of public relations Joan Esposito. "This money will go to support programs at UVa for the breast center."

The race will be held in Charlottesville on September 1.
