As we say goodbye to some of the things going out the door as it shuts on 2009, we look ahead to what 2010 welcomes.

The first time the Cavalier football team rushes the field next season, they'll have a new man leading the pack. The University of Virginia formally announced Mike London as the new head coach in early December.

Tony Bennett is also joining the ranks of UVa. athletics. This will mark the first time Bennett coaches an ACC basketball team.

Change at UVa. extends beyond the athletics department, as 2010 will be the year the university reveals a new president. President John Casteen will mark the end of his journey at the top of UVa.

There were several changes following the November local elections. Kristin Szakos makes her way onto Charlottesville’s City Council. In Albemarle County, the Board of Supervisors welcomes Rodney Thomas and Duane Snow.

At the state level, Governor Tim Kaine will focus on his new job heading the Democratic National Committee. Meanwhile, Kaine will hand over the reigns to Republican Governor-elect Bob McDonnell.

The Defense Intelligence Agency is slated to fill hundreds of new jobs, and there will be new work, and a new place to shop for people living near Greene County. A Walmart in Ruckersville will open its doors in the New Year.
