Father Of Tech Victim Speaks To Lawmakers

A father of one of the victim's of the Virginia Tech shootings spoke to lawmakers Monday, telling them that the time to make changes to Virginia's gun laws and mental health system was now.

Joseph Samaha's daughter Reema Samaha was one of the victim's killed by Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho. Officials say that Cho was ordered to get mental health treatment from the state but at this time it is still a mystery whether or not he did. But he was still allowed to buy guns.

Samaha told lawmakers that 4/16 was there 9/11 and that it was time for them to become proactive and not reactive on legislation to close loopholes.

Monday's meeting of the Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee is one of four planned hearings on the state's mental health system.
