The right-hand southbound lanes along Route 29 North will be closed until rush hour Tuesday as VDOT crews work to fill in a hole.
VDOT had to dig the hole to investigate a pipe that was suspected of leaking.
A similar leak caused a giant hole to open up in that same spot two times in the past two years.
When crews dug up the hole, they found a gap in the ground, which was the apparent cause of the problem.
"We are filling that void space with a material that will provide more stability for that asphalt paving surface," explained VDOT Spokesperson Lou Hatter. "Now, we are repaving that area again."
VDOT already had plans to replace the faulty pipe underneath Route 29.
