Tech Panel Gets Recording of Cho's Mental Health Hearing

June 19, 2007

The state Virginia Tech panel investigating the school's shootings obtained a tape recording Monday of gunman Seung-Hui Cho's mental health hearing by court order.

The special justice, who conducted the December 14, 2005 hearing, ruled that Cho was a danger to himself and ordered him to get outpatient treatment. So far, there has been no determination as to whether Cho actually received any treatment.

The panel had had difficulties in their efforts to obtain records of Cho's mental health and education because of state and federal privacy laws.
