If you're ready to welcome summer, a family picnic could be the perfect way.
The Virginia Farm Bureau Federation reports that a family of 10 can eat for under $30.
The average cost is about $2.83 per person when the total meal cost is split up.
On the list of things that should go into your basket for an affordable picnic: hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, lemonade, corn chips and baked beans.
The survey also lists Richmond as the most expensive Virginia city in which to have a family picnic. The total cost is around $40.
In Luray, the estimated cost for a picnic was only $18.00.
Other picnic items in the estimate included watermelon, baby carrots, chocolate milk and buns.
