Albemarle County Police Receive Grant

June 20, 2007

The Albemarle County Police Department received a $35,000 highway safety grant from the DMV Wednesday. The grant will cover $21,000 for overtime costs and $14,000 for traffic enforcement equipment.

Overtime costs will cover pay for extra police officers to be on the street during the holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Years Eve. The money will also allow officers to staff DUI patrols and check speeding on secondary roads without detracting from regular staffing levels.

The equipment costs will cover six additional radar units and ten alcosensors. The added alcosensors will allow officers to more efficiently conduct alcohol-related traffic investigations.
