Kaine Announces Additional $12.5 M In BRAC Grants

June 20, 2007

Governor Tim Kaine announced on Wednesday that an additional $12.5 million has been awarded to communities affected following the federal Base Realignment and Closure decisions.

The funding comes from the Virginia National Defense Industrial Authority as part of the Military Strategic Response Fund appropriated by the 2006 General Assembly.

The grants are expected to help address encroachment near military installations, support transportation projects around base entrances to ease congestion, and protect installations from future BRAC action.

Out of the 10 communities receiving money from the grants, Albemarle County received $401,000 for aerial fire protection for northern Albemarle County and the Defense Intelligence Agency/National Ground Intelligence Center.
