Albemarle County Fire Department Gets Boost From Grant

July 2, 2007

Albemarle County was awarded a $401,000 grant from the Virginia Military Strategic Response Fund to help in the purchase of an aerial firefighting apparatus for the Hollymead Community.

The community includes the NGIC facility which is slated for significant future expansion as part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure(BRAC) Commission recommendations.

The grant will allow the purchase of a ladder truck which has a total cost of over $1 million. Albemarle Fire Rescue Chief Dan Eggleston says the new ladder truck will "decrease response times and add a critical component to our firefighting service."
