1984 UVa Sexual Assault Case On Hold

July 3, 2007

A 1984 case of sexual assault on UVa's campus that was reignited after one of the attackers came forward to apologize has been put on hold.

William Beebe, a former UVa student, came forward in 2005 as part of the 12-step Alcoholic's Anonymous program to apologize to Liz Seccuro for attacking her more than 20 years ago in the form of a letter.

Beebe pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual battery for the assault and is currently serving an 18 month sentence but investigators think that three men attacked Seccuro at a UVa fraternity party.

They have been unable to get witnesses to talk and investigators say that because of a lack of evidence to prosecute the investigation in to additional alleged attackers has been put on hold.
