City's Response to Snow Clean Up Considered Vast Improvement

Charlottesville Public Works and residents of the city spent Sunday shoveling and cleaning the snow that rattled the city Saturday.
Resident Rita Bryant said, "The city has put in a great effort this time. They put effort into the citizens of this community."
City officials say they had more equipment on hand for the weekend's snowstorm than they did in December. They had snowblowers to clear crosswalks and intersections.
City officials say the credit isn't all theirs, it's also thanks to mother nature.
Temperatures were warmer Sunday, the snow was less dense than the snowfall in December and there was less snow to deal with.
The city also says that folks did their part to help with the clean-up as well. Motorists took heed of the "No Parking" signs that were posted around Charlottesville and instead, took advantage of the free parking that the downtown garages offered.
Additionally, people around Charlottesville helped each other.
"You can really see the team work," Bryant said. "Our neighbors have been great and everyone's been helping each other shovel the sidewalks."
Charlottesville is not legally required to clear private sidwalks but wants to help clear pathways for the elderly.
Officials are asking if anyone wants to volunteer to clear, to call 970-3333.

Vast is the word that comes to mind, This snowfall, there was a vast difference in the way The City handled things. The snowplows were out early, and most snow was cleared by the following work day, Thanks to City officials, brodcats and folks in Charlottesville. Its was all about team effort,
I do not understand why the side streets in Twin Lakes/Ruckersville/Stanardsville area continue to be a mess. These should have been taken care of yesterday, kids will be doing school way into the summer because they can't get subdivision and side roads cleaned, they had all day Sunday to get these done. People can not continue to miss work/school because side roads are not getting cleaned.
I can't speak for Charlottesville, but Albemarle County has done MUCH better as well.... roads were cleared faster and BETTER! Last time I had to dig a miniature mountain of snow from where it was piled along the roadway by the plow just behind my driveway. This time it was smoother and did not block access to my driveway... and in record time as well. THANK YOU!
