Multiple fire engines from the Charlottesville Fire Department battled a house fire Monday afternoon in the 200 block of Robertson Avenue, located near the intersection with Jefferson Park Avenue.
Witnesses say they first saw plumes of smoke coming from the residence around 3:00pm Monday. Fire crews arrived at the home to find it fully engulfed, and a backdraft helped to bring down the roof shortly after they arrived.
No injuries were reported, but three University of Virginia graduate students - one from Puerto Rico, one from Spain, and one from the states - lost everything and were forced to find other places to spend the night as they decide what to do next. All three told CBS19 they are lucky to have friends who offered shelter.
The group was not home at the time of the fire. A pet dog that was inside the house made it out safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
