July 14, 2007

The Virginia Department of Forestry is sending 14 wildland firefighters to help battle the wildfires scorching land in the western United States.

The crew will leave for Boise, Idaho, on Sunday to begin a two-week assignment.

John Miller, director of resource protection for the state Forestry Department, says the crew will help construct fire lines hoping to keep the blaze from spreading.

The department also said more crews may be sent out over the next several weeks.
