Local African-American Group Celebrates Father And Son Day

July 15, 2007

The saying goes "like father like son" and Sunday one local group celebrated the bond between the two.

The Thomas Jefferson Area African-American Male Forum hosted Father and Son Day at Burley Middle School Sunday.

Representatives from black-owned businesses were on hand to teach about searching for a job, banking, investments along with marriage and family planning.

Organizers say they hope the entire community will take notice.

"The goal and the purpose of this is to raise our community up; for the African American community to raise up in the eyes of the general community and also the African American community as a whole," Elder William T. Coles, founder of the organization.

This is the first year of the event.
