A Homecoming King at Fluvanna County High has been knocked off his throne, all because of what he had in the back of his pick-up truck.

Justin Sexton, an 18-year-old senior at Fluvanna High School, faces a 364-day suspension from school shortly after officials said they found tobacco in his truck, which led to the discovery of an airsoft gun.

An airsoft gun is like a BB gun, but gas propelled. Sexton said he didn't know anything about it and claims his friend has admitted to leaving it there.

Thursday, instead of being in class, Sexton was at one of his three part-time jobs washing cars.

"I'm scared," he admitted.

Sexton maintained a 3.2 grade point average, was taking college courses, was a member of student government, served as the current Homecoming King and was accepted to Old Dominion University.

Hundreds of people on Facebook have joined a page entitled, "Let Justin Sexton back in school!" People have been sounding off on the superintendent's decisions, but the superintendent won't comment on the issue because of privacy matters.

However, Sexton had a message for the superintendent.

"Why ruin someone's life because of this?" he said.

Sexton said he'll wait and see what Old Dominion decides as his GPA drops due to the 364-day suspension. Meanwhile, he's not sitting idly by. The Fluvanna homecoming king has appealed his case to the school board, which will take up the issue on March 10.
