Before folks gathered around the dinner table for a Thanksgiving feast, hundreds of people came out Thursday morning to take part in an annual tradition.
November 28, 2013 marked the 85th "Blessing of the Hounds" at Grace Episcopal Church in Cismont.
Horses, huntsman and hounds were blessed before a day of hunting.
Donations were also collected to help area charities. One of the recipients was Services Dogs of Virginia. The organization trains dogs that will be given to people with disabilities and medical conditions.
"We're really dependent on donors and people that really believe in our mission. So, something like this is really important to us," said Helen Schoonover, Director, Service Dogs of Virginia.
"That's what this holiday season is all about. We want to be able to help other people and other causes as a part of this event. So, we're really glad to be able to sponsor these," said Miles Smith, Rector, Grace Episcopal Church.
Donations will also help Montanova Stables in Keswick which gives riding scholarships. Money raised also benefits the Lafayette School and Treatment Center in Charlottesville.
