One of the largest job fairs in Central Virginia is being held at Piedmont Virginia Community College on Wednesday.
Based on what happened Monday at another Virginia job fair, in which thousands of job seekers turned up to see what jobs the federal government is offering, PVCC has good reason to get ready.
It's PVCC's 26th annual job fair, and it attracts dozens of companies and hundreds of people looking for a job. The job fair is Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main building of the PVCC campus.
Companies are hiring for open positions in jobs that range from entry-level to advanced experience. Around 900 people attended last year, and organizers are expecting a big crowd this year since a lot of people still need to find work.
"People need to know that they need to be dressed for success," said Andre Luck, PVCC's job placement officer. "They need to bring lots of resumes and they need to be prepared to talk to employers about the jobs they are interested in and why they are the best candidates for those positions."
Thousands looking for work jammed into the government's job fair in Fredericksburg Monday. Deputies had to call for crowd control. The event was so crowded that it was shut down after two hours.
PVCC said they can accommodate the number of people who will show up and that crowd control is not an issue. Free parking is available, and PVCC will provide a shuttle to get people from the parking lot to the building.
