Albemarle High School Drama has captured the VHSL AAA State Theatre Championship.

The competition was held Saturday at PVCC's Dickinson building where winners from all Virginia regional competitions took part.

AHS competed with Edward Albee's "The Zoo Story," an intense character-driven story of the American Dream. The play stars Jerry, played by AHS Junior Jeremy Weiss, and Peter, played by AHS Junior Luke Marsh.

Both Weiss and Marsh were honored with "Best Actor" awards from the judges as well.

Albemarle High School had won the Northwest Regional Theatre Competition and the Regional Forensics competition in the weeks leading up to this state competition.

The AHS drama troupe has been selected to perform in the Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Festival in Scotland in August. They are only one of about 50 high schools in the entire nation to earn such an honor.

This is the first time a state theatre trophy has been brought home to Albemarle County.
