Whether you're on Capitol Hill or on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall, the contentious health care bill has people split.

"If they don't get it this year, they don't get it," said Leo Daugherty, who supposed the health care bill. "This is the shot. They got the majority. They're taking advantage of it."

"I'm definitely in favor of health care reform," said Saul Mora. "But, the thing is, from the way that I see it, the stuff that's going to pass is not really reform. It basically makes us purchase health care."

Among many things, people would be required to have health insurance. Those who don't would face a fine. However, people with a low income would be exempt.

As of Sunday afternoon, using federal funding for an abortion is not in the health care bill. That deal gave the democrats crucial votes in passing the bill.

Fifth district Congressman Tom Perriello says he's one of the 216 votes needed to approve the health care legislation.

"Nearly 50 thousand families in the fifth district will get coverage under this plan," Perriello said. "Over 400,000 residents in our district will get improved services and reduced costs under this plan."

He says passing this bill will make health care more competitive and affordable.

"We've been working to improve that system for a century, for a decade, for a year," said Perriello. "Today we take this historic step to guarantee affordable health care for every American."

Thank you Tom for voting for the Healthcare that the American people need. Its not about just you and me making ends meet, it is about all of us. Those angry with this Healthcare reform, have not had to care for a sick family member and become bankrupt because of it, because their health insurance wouldn't cover many of the bills. The value of this bill will probably not be seen by some people for a while, but it will be so valuable for so many right now. And as far as our great Attorney General trying to ban the bill for Virginians, our state is cutting an unbelievable amount of education funding to OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR CHILDREN, but yet has the money to fight the federal government on this bill??? Where in the world are your priorities!?? Again, thank you Tom for voting FOR us!
