Civil Rights Group Recognizes Vick

August 3, 2007

A civil rights organization plans to recognize Michael Vick at its annual convention.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference opened its five-day
convention Friday in Atlanta and President Charles Steele says the groups is still discussing how they will recognize Vick.

Vick has pleaded not guilty to charges connecting the Atlanta Falcons quarterback to an alleged dogfighting ring. The indictment has spurred animal rights protesters to target Vick.

Steele says that Vick is feeling ostracized by people who are rushing to judgment. Steele says "It is our responsibility to save him."

Earlier in the week the NAACP asked the public and corporate sponsors to withhold judgment in the case until Vick can be tried in court.
