Police Investigate Market Street Assault

August 5, 2007

According to police, Saturday night just before midnight a 22-year-old Gordonsville man left his car running and walked into the Lucky Seven convenient store on Market Street. While he was checking out he noticed someone getting into his car and pulling away.

Charlottesville Police say he then ran outside and tried to stop the man from taking off with his car, but was dragged about 25 feet by the car. He was not seriously injured.

Later Saturday night Albemarle County Police pulled over the man driving the stolen car and charged him with DUI, driving on a suspended license and refusal to take a Breathalyzer.

Charlottesville Police are still investigating the car theft and assault and no charges have been filed.

So far, authorities do not believe this is related to any of the other recent random attacks.

Anyone with any information is asked to call crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.
