Beebe Being Released Early

August 8, 2007

The man convicted of sexually assaulting a fellow UVa student in 1984 will be released from jail after serving just a six month sentence.

Beebe was sentenced to 18 months in jail in March. Because the crime was occurred in the 1980s, old sentencing guidelines apply and Beebe will be released on September 17th.

Virginia abolished parole for all crimes committed after 1994, but because the crime was committed a decade earlier, Beebe was eligible for early release.

In a written statement the victim, Liz Seccuro, tells CBS19 that "she had no idea that old sentencing guidelines applied. If she had known her family could have prepared themselves for this unfortunate outcome."
