Babies Relocated Because Of Neo-Natal Unit Flood

August 12, 2007

Rescue crews responded to a wet situation at the UVA Medical Center Sunday afternoon.

According to fire officials, a construction worker accidentally knocked a sprinkler head off, triggering the sprinkler system on the eighth floor.

Nearly 20 babies in the Neo-Natal Unit had to be relocated. However, none of them were hurt or got wet.

"It doesn't appear that any of the equipment has been affected, it's probably just accumulating on the floor and dripping through the ceiling," said Fire Battalion Chief Rick Crickenberger.

UVA medical officials anticipate the babies could be moved back to their location in the morning.

Right now it is unknown how much damage was done.
