The James Madison Landmark Forest has a new addition. Senator John Warner and former President James Madison oversaw an opening ceremony for the new Demonstration Forest Trail.
The Montpelier Demonstration Forest is an outdoor exhibit that will show students and landowners the best ways to manage a healthy, sustainable forest.
The trail is a one-mile long loop that visitors can walk, to observe forestry management techniques at four demonstration stations.
President James Madison called the trail, "a squirrel's leap from heaven."
Conservationist and former U.S. Senator John Warner joined in Madison's enthusiasm.
"It's incredibly important that we conserve our history," Senator Warner said. "And teach our children about how they can live sustainable lives."
The trail is open to the public daily, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. April through October, and 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. November through March.
