With so much devastation in the Gulf of Mexico with the recent oil explosion, the deadly earthquake that shook Haiti is taking a backseat in some people's minds. However, that's not the case for the Charlottesville based Building Goodness Foundation, which continues its efforts to help in that country and locally.

Swing music, dancing and table games helped set the seen for a “speakeasy” inside the Jefferson Theatre Thursday night. The event was put on by BGF to raise money for their many projects.

“Whether it be our local projects or our projects in Haiti or Honduras, (the money raised) goes to help the entire foundation and we really need that money,” said Connie Jorgensen.

BGF is currently working on about 100 homes, two schools and two churches in Haiti.

Patricia Smith who works for Charlottesville’s Offender Aid and Restoration showed up and Thursday’s Fundraiser to give back to the foundation that's done so much for her.

“They came and helped build and do our offices, so I’ve been supporting them for a while, and who wouldn't wanna dress up and have some fun,” said Smith.

Organizers hope Thursday night’s event will raise about $50,000 for their foundation.
