Local Firefighters Raise Money For Muscular Dystrophy

August 25, 2007

Saturday our firefighters pounded pavement to raise money for children in need. The annual Fill the Boot campaign is a fundraiser for children with muscular dystrophy.

Saturday the Charlottesville Fire Department patrolled intersections, boot in hand. While stopped at a traffic light, many drivers dropped off their spare change.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser happens every year across the country.

"A lot of the MDA donations go actually here locally too. UVA has a pretty large facility, so a good portion of that money goes there," said Craig Williamson of the Charlottesville Fire Dept.

Saturday is the last day of the campaign, but those who want to make donations can do so at area fire houses.
