The Nelson County Sheriff's Office, along with county EMS agencies, responded to a call from a campsite along the Tye River in the Tyro area of Nelson County Saturday morning.

Authorities responded to a report from other campers that a member of their group had gone missing.

The 68-year-old victim was later found unresponsive in the river. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

At this time the cause of death is not know, authorities said. The body has been sent to the medical examiner's office in Richmond for an autopsy.

The incident is still under investigation by Nelson County Police, however foul play is not suspected at this time, authorities said.

The victim's name is being withheld at this time to allow ample time for next of kin notification.
