With two of the President top men stepping down this month, political experts say there's an obvious problem that a lot of talent and experience is leaving the White House.

Larry Walker is a professor of law at UVA.

He says that when your top lawyer steps down it definitely causes a period of potential disruption.

Now, he says the Bush administration needs step up with a replacement for the protection of the American people.

“I think they can be replaced, but what I expect, particularly in the case of Judge Gonzales is there is going to be a lot of long delay,” said Walker.

With the presidential election season in full swing Walker believes there will be even more politics spilling over right into the confirmation of a new Attorney General.

Walker said, “The Justice Department is so important in so many areas of public life that actually any resignation at this level is very unfortunate, could cause potential problems at this point, because its going to be very difficult, going to take a long time to confirm a successor.”

Larry Walker first met Alberto Gonzales back in 2003 at the White House.

Walker's daughter worked under Gonzales in White House council for two years.

He describes him as an able lawyer, who has served the American people for many years, and ought to be thanked for doing so.

“Judge Gonzales is very easy to talk to; he has a very nice sense of humor. He knows a lot about the University of Virginia and has a lot of admiration for the university I’m happy to say; especially for the law school,” said Walker.
