Opponents of a proposed gas station in Crozet said they don't want it in their town, and they're speaking out against the project.

The station, one of the largest in Albemarle County, would be built on land just outside of Crozet.

At a public hearing on Tuesday, the Board of Zoning Appeals heard a resounding "no" from Crozet residents who attended. They asked the board to stop plans for the proposed "Re-Store' N Station."

If built, the station would be the second-largest full-service gas station in Albemarle County and would be built on Route 250. Crozet residents said such a large station would destroy the scenic route on 250, and it would also bring in big rigs at all hours of the night looking to fill up on diesel fuel.

About 30 people showed up to stand before the board to express concern, but it wasn't enough to sway the board, which voted that plans for the service station are ready to move forward.

The next stop for this proposed gas station is a public hearing in front of the City Planning Commission, where they'll decide whether the station will use too much water. That meeting will be Tuesday, June 8.

Wouldn't it be nice if all of you who support this TRUCK STOP nestled in a residential community would invite this into your own. It would be more convenient for you then. I suggest you read this article and see if you will be happy with this situation. Be careful what you ask for and may the suffering be all yours. http://articles.latimes.com/2009/apr/05/local/me-serialkillers5

Our family transplanted from Nova few years ago. We chose Crozet for the rural, small town feel. If we wanted all the conveniences and proximity to all the shopping we would have chosen Charlottesville, along with more traffic. Albemarle County is a nice place to live, has a good school system. All those amenities has a price, higher taxes and a higher cost of living. Sometimes I get gas in Waynesboro when shopping at Wal-mart. Yes the gas is cheaper, but look around, do you want to live there? I was visiting family in Nova last week, Charlottesville gas prices seem reasonable compared to Nova's higher gas prices.

Can we go ahead and get a Sheets, a McDonald's, a Burger King, and a Food Lion while we're at it? Maybe a Walmart, a Lowe's, and a few motels too? Might as well destroy this part of the county while we're at it, eh?
