Rodis Due In Richmond Court

September 6, 2007

Rodney Rodis, the Catholic priest accused of embezzling money from two Louisa County churches, is due back in court.

Rodis is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon at U.S. District Court In Richmond. Rodis is charged with mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.

According to the indictment, the 51-year-old retired priest from Fredericksburg embezzled money from churches in Bumpass and Mineral from 2002 until last year and sent the money to the Philippines.

The local prosecutor dropped charges against Rodis, saying federal prosecutors are better equipped to recover stolen money from other countries.
