Friday, a Louisa County jury will begin deliberating the fate of the man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn baby.
Prosecutors say back in 2001, 28-year-old Irvin Fountain shot his girlfriend, Shantay Wheeler, four times because she refused to abort their baby.
Late Thursday afternoon the prosecution rested and the defense called only one witness.
A gun expert testified Wheeler could have been killed by a single accidental shotgun discharge and her four wounds caused by fragments of one bullet.
According to testimony, one shotgun shell casing was found near Wheeler's body. No other bullets were recovered.
Closing arguments are expected Friday morning after which the jury will begin their deliberations.
Fountain faces up to life in prison if convicted of capital murder.
The trial began Tuesday.
