UVa Fundraising Goal Ahead of Schedule

September 10, 2007

The University of Virginia has reached the halfway point of a 3 billion-dollar fundraising campaign -- only one year into the five-year drive.

UVa officials are convinced they can top the goal by one
billion dollars by the time the campaign ends in December 2011.

The university's top fundraising official, Bob Sweeney, said
the University wants to be "the first privately financed
public university."

The campaign would leave U-V-A's endowment at 7.5 billion
dollars.

The state contributes roughly 9 percent of U-V-A's two
billion-dollar annual budget.
