A woman and a child were struck Thursday morning as they tried to cross Rio Road, just east of Mall Drive.
A 37-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son were struck by a 2005 Honda Element around 10:47 a.m. Thursday morning after trying to cross the road. One lane of traffic stopped to allow the two to cross but the other lane did not see the two crossing.
The two victims, Mary Adams and her son, were taken to the UVa Medical Center. Officials say that they are expected to be ok. All lanes were shut down but have since re-opened.
No charges have been filed against the driver, 35-year-old Carroll Lamb. Police are continuing to investigate.
